At a workshop on 15 March held to initiate Asian Accounts of Australia, a project funded by the Australian Research Council, researchers and Library staff came together to discuss and evaluate resources and possible approaches. In this project, Chinese and Japanese material held by the National Library will be examined by a team from the Australian National University and Griffith University over a three-year period. The team leaders, Professor Tony Milner, Dean, Faculty of Asian Studies, Australian National University and Professor Mark Finnane, School of Humanities, Griffith University, led the discussions. Other team members involved were Ms Alison Broinowski and Mr Shun Ikeda, both chief investigators for the project from the A.N.U. Others at the workshop included academics interested in the topic. Desired outcomes of the project are translations, a book of readings, a research monograph and an academic conference.
