Australian Public Affairs Full Text

APAIS is Australia’s major public affairs database, indexing over 11 000 articles each year. Within a few months, users of the APAIS database will be able to link directly to images of selected articles from over 200 journals. This service is the result of cooperation between the National Library, RMIT Publishing and the Copyright Agency Limited.

The Australian Public Affairs Full Text service from RMIT Publishing’s Informit Online will provide online images of the articles indexed from those journals that have been comprehensively indexed by APAIS since 1995. Subscribers to the service will have access to a version of the APAIS database that will allow them to restrict a search to titles with online images, and then to view those images immediately. Journals in the areas of business, health and law will be featured initially, with more titles being added progressively. The copyright-cleared images will be optimised for downloading, and will include all charts, tables and graphics from the original publication.

Pricing for the new service will be announced shortly, and for this and other information about the service as it develops readers are encouraged to visit the RMIT Publishing web site (http://www.informit.com.au/).

Users will also have noted that many records in the APAIS database now include HTML links to the full text of the article, or a reference to the location of a publisher-generated PDF image. A number of those APAIS titles available online are now also being added to the National Library’s PANDORA archive, ensuring their continuing availability. Records for these titles now include a PURL (Persistent URL), so users can go to PANDORA if the item is not available from the publisher’s web site.
