New Thai Ambassador visits

Thai Ambassador

His Excellency Mr Sawanit Kongsiri, the new Ambassador of Thailand, visited the National Library on 21 June. He and fellow embassy staff had discussions with David Toll, National Library Deputy Director-General on possible areas of cooperation with the Library.

The Ambassador was most impressed by the Thai language collection, which is the most extensive in Australia. He was particularly interested to see the large collection of Thai cremation volumes, which are published to mark the death of a prominent person. A project to provide improved access to these cremation volumes is currently in progress.
