Book of Kells facsimile comes to Library
![]() |
Following the excitement and interest generated by the exhibition of the Book of Kells at the National Gallery of Australia, the National Library has been fortunate in securing on loan a facsimile copy of this wonderful work. Published in a limited edition in 1990 by Faksimile Verlag Luzern of Switzerland, it is a full-colour facsimile of the eighth-century Latin manuscript held in the Library of Trinity College, Dublin. An informative commentary volume accompanies the facsimile. Although the Library holds earlier facsimiles of the Book of Kells, this edition is an outstanding example of book production. Nat Williams and Margaret Dent of the Librarys Exhibitions
Branch are shown examining the new acquisition. It is pictured next to
its ornate container (left) with an earlier facsimile volume held by
the Library (right). |
