Library shares in Olympic spirit

Torch relay

The National Library caught the Olympic spirit as the torch relay wound its way through Canberra in September. Well-wishers lined the steps outside the Library on 7 September for a glimpse of the Olympic flame on its journey to Sydney for the opening ceremony. The enthusiastic crowd cheered madly at everything that moved on the relay route—including a bus full of school children and an Australia Post delivery driver—before witnessing the changeover as Canberra mother Jennifer Nixon lit the torch of her daughter and fellow torchbearer, Louise Nixon.
