Every eight seconds: AIDS revisited

A symposium will be held in the National Library from Wednesday 29 November to Thursday 30 November 2000 to examine the current developments and future directions in dealing with HIV/AIDS. Organised by the National Academies Forum, the peak organisation for Australia’s four learned academies, and the National Library of Australia with the support of the AIDS Action Council of the A.C.T., ‘Every eight seconds: AIDS revisited’ aims to identify common issues across the humanities, social sciences, natural and technological sciences relating to HIV infection and AIDS; to outline and discuss current strategies for prevention, treatment and cure; and to help overcome the Australian complacency about HIV infection and AIDS. There will also be a small display based on the Australian Response to AIDS Oral History Project, undertaken jointly by the Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations and the Library in 1992–1993. Enquiries about the Symposium to Dr Nancy Lane, Symposium Coordinator (email: nancy.lane@science.org.au). Registration cost is $165 (concession $85). For details and registration form, see the web site: www.naf.org.au/aids.htm
