Van Gulik Chinese Collection catalogued
Robert van Gulik (19101967) was an extraordinary man. As well as being a distinguished China scholar, book collector and diplomat who served as the Netherlands Ambassador to Japan, he wrote the lively and popular Judge Dee Chinese detective stories. The University of Leiden acquired his valuable book collection of 2500 Chinese titles and the more important and unusual works, particularly on Chinese arts, music, literature and rare folk novels, have been made available on microfiche by the Inter Documentation Company.
The National Library has now added holdings of van Gulik Collection microfiche items to the National Chinese, Japanese and Korean (CJK) Service and the Librarys own online catalogue. This covers Part 1: Folk novels, containing 117 titles and Part 2: Literature and fine arts, with 132 titles.
