Singapore National Library Board Members Visit
Dr Christopher Chia, Chief Executive of the National Library Board of Singapore and three of his senior staff visited the National Library of Australia in February to discuss the strategic directions and priorities of both libraries. Dr Christopher Chia, accompanied by Mr Chan Ping Wah (Senior Director, Development Directorate), Mr Raymond Lim (Director, Manpower and Corporate Services) and Ms Miranda Ebenezer (Librarian, National Library Board) spent two days with senior staff of the Library.
Discussions focused on the delivery of services to users in the electronic environment. The Singaporean visitors were very interested in the Librarys digitisation program and its Images 1 and PictureAustralia services, as well as the PANDORA Archive.
Both libraries agreed that there were many areas in which future collaboration could be very useful. These include the possibility of a gateway between Kinetica and the Silas system in Singapore, exchange of information about Information Technology strategies, further dialogue about the PictureAustralia and PANDORA services and the National Library Board of Singapores recent innovations in service delivery to clients.
Dr Warwick Cathro, Assistant Director-General, Information Technology Division, and Mr Lawrence Salter, Manager, Stack Services, will visit the National Library Board during the e-tlas 2001 conference in Singapore in April to discuss areas for further cooperation, and to see first hand the new book delivery system in use by the National Library Board for delivery of material to users throughout their branch library network.
Ms Jan Fullerton, Director-General, Mr David Toll, Deputy Director-General and Mr Gerry Linehan, Assistant Director-General, Corporate Services will make an official return visit to Singapore in July.
