Kinetica’s software has the flexibility to allow the addition of new databases for its customers to search. The National Library plans to take advantage of this facility by adding new databases to the current list of databases available via Kinetica. The first addition is expected to be Te Puna, the service offered by the National Library of New Zealand that provides access to New Zealand’s National Bibliographic Database, which includes the New Zealand National Union Catalogue. Kinetica customers will be able to use Kinetica gateway to access Te Puna to obtain records for cataloguing, to find locations of material held in New Zealand libraries, and to request items on interlibrary loan.

Jenny McDonald, Manager, Te Puna Support, and Ruth Miller, Te Puna Customer Support Consultant, from the National Library of New Zealand visited the National Library in early March to discuss issues relating to access between Kinetica and Te Puna. Topics discussed included the contracts that are being arranged between the two national libraries for provision of the services. These are now close to being finalised. In addition to formalising the relationship between the two systems, each must be configured to access the other. Some details of this access were also discussed and testing of access has commenced.
