Kinetica Annual Users Meeting 2001

This year’s Kinetica Annual Users Meeting will be held in the Grand Mercure Hotel, Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Queensland on 26–27 July. It will be chaired by Cheryl Brickell, Manager, Library Services at Noosa Shire Council in Queensland. Cheryl brings a wide perspective to the task of chairing the Annual Users Meeting. She has worked in public, school and TAFE libraries, lectured in library schools and acted as a consultant on library services.

Cheryl has written to the head of each Kinetica customer library inviting them to identify and nominate topics for discussion for this year’s meeting. She encourages all Kinetica customers to attend the Annual Users Meeting, and if they have any particular concerns or issues they would like to raise, asks that they write a short paper and nominate a speaker to present the paper at the meeting.

The program will cover topics critical to management of electronic resources in Australian libraries. Topics identified for sessions so far include:

  • a panel on cataloguing issues including a presentation by Ann Huthwaite, Chair of the Joint Steering Committee for Revision of AACR and a Member, Australian Committee on Cataloguing. Ann was the only Australian to address the Library of Congress conference, Bibliographic Control for the New Millennium;
  • a session on electronic resource issues including a report of the Expert Group on Electronic Resources and discussion of metadata and cataloguing; and
  • the launch of the form developed to enable KineticaWeb users to report original material to the National Bibliographic Database.

An important agenda item will be the parallel sessions giving more time for participation in discussion of issues and feedback from users. Last year this proved a valuable opportunity to raise and discuss issues of concern to members. Reports will be given from State user groups and expert advisory groups.

In addition to topics suggested by Kinetica customers, the National Library will report on future developments including software enhancements, databases and training/support materials.

In line with last year’s format, there will be a session to answer questions on notice of a general nature in the meeting. More specific questions will be answered on the Kinetica web site. We encourage you all to send in questions of general interest. Agenda papers for the Annual Users Meeting, including the Kinetica report, will be available from the Kinetica web site before the meeting.

We hope to see you in Queensland in July at the Kinetica Annual Users Meeting.
