New Assistant Director-General
Roxanne Missingham is newly appointed to the position of Assistant Director-General, Resource Sharing Division. The focus of her long career in libraries and IT is in the development of digital delivery and digital services. In the past Roxanne has been a library educator, manager and researcher, and most recently Director of Reader Services at the Library. Her achievements in Reference can be seen in the implementation of recommendations of the Reference Review; the introduction of a strong team approach, including implementation of flexible working hours; the development of collaborative initiatives through the creation of the CASL Reference Issues Working Group and participation in the Collaborative Digital Reference Service; and a focus on the development of digital services, including the Federation Gateway, for better access to information for all Australians.
Active in the library profession, Roxanne was convener of the Federal Libraries Information Network for six years and was recently President of the ACT Branch of the Australian Library and Information Association. She has written extensively on developments in digital reference and database services and the changing needs of clients.
Roxanne sees the appointment as a great challenge and opportunity. Libraries together form a key component of the infrastructure which supports a knowledge based economy and we need to take resource sharing services further into the electronic world for the benefits of all libraries and Australians, said Roxanne. Support for research, learning and cultural life is based upon the national assets available through the library network, which needs to be further developed through national services to support resource sharing.
The Resource Sharing Division team led by Tom Ruthven, Interlending Services, Bryony De La Motte, Customer Service, Rob Walls, Kinetica Database Services, Paul Beer, Divisional Support and Roxanne Missingham will be actively reviewing and developing services to enable the network of Australian libraries to operate effectively.
