Two Decades in Resource Sharing:
Bryony de la Motte Retires

Bryony de la Motte

Over the past 20 years, Bryony de la Motte has been one of the National Library of Australia’s great assets, making an enormous contribution to the development and operation of resource sharing services that have enriched Australian libraries. Bryony was a member of the original team who implemented the Australian Bibliographic Network (ABN) in November 1981. She continued to work in ABN and its successor Kinetica over nearly two decades. For most of this time she managed customer services—a role for which her warm and friendly nature ensured she was ideally suited.

Bryony was involved in developing services, supporting customers and contributing to the strategic management of the service. She was more recently a member of the National Bibliographic Service project team playing a major role in the software selection and implementation of the new Kinetica service in the late 1990s. Well known and respected by customers, she regularly attended Kinetica user meetings and conferences and was a frequent contributor to ABN News, Gateways and kinetica-l.

Prior to joining ABN, Bryony worked in a number of other sections of the Library including Acquisitions, Systems and Retrospective National Bibliography. She also had a brief period in the Online Information Services Branch, during which time she was instrumental in establishing the Ozline service and introducing APAIS online.

Bryony retired in early July and is looking forward to a new career at home—quilting and enjoying many other activities.
