Australian Government Information Comes to the Library

At the end of May the responsibility for recording information on the existence of Commonwealth Government publications moved from the Department of Finance and Administration to the National Library of Australia.

The Library will provide this service using its existing infrastructure and services. Taking information from records in the former Australian Government Index to Publications (AGIP), the Library is adding this information to the National Bibliographic Database (NBD), and providing access through its Kinetica service. This will enhance the value of the NBD, already a strong source of Commonwealth Government information. The Library will be encouraging more Commonwealth Government agencies to create records and holdings on the NBD for both print and electronic publications.

The Library has a responsibility for the comprehensive collection of Commonwealth Government publications in both print and digital form, and plays a role in ensuring that information on Commonwealth Government publications is widely available.
