Canadian Visitor Welcomed

Canadian Visitor

Maryna Nowosielski, Director of Acquisitions at the National Library of Canada visited the National Library of Australia in October. Maryna met with Margy Burn, Assistant Director-General, Australian Collections and Reader Services Division, and a number of Library staff to discuss a range of topics including collection building and management, legal deposit, services to readers, and services to indigenous people and multicultural communities.

Maryna combined her holiday in Australia with visits to the State libraries of Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria, and while in Canberra also visited the library at the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS).

An uncharacteristically bleak October day in Canberra did not detract from the warmth of the visit, and the enjoyment of discussing matters of mutual concern. The National Libraries of Canada and Australia have much in common and are keen to maintain close ties.
