Closer Ties with National Library of Indonesia
![]() |
Mr Dady Rachmananta, Head of the National Library of Indonesia visited the National Library of Australia during December. Dady is no stranger to the Library, having spent some time here 20 years ago on a training course. The two libraries have long-standing and close cooperation. Oliver Mann the National Library's current Regional Officer, Asia who is based in Jakarta and his predecessors since the 1970s have collaborated strongly with the National Library of Indonesia. A number of Indonesian librarians have undertaken training and work experience placements in Canberra. While in Canberra, Dady had discussions on the possible exchange of
bibliographic records between the two national libraries. He spent
considerable time in Asian Collections with the Senior Librarian,
Indonesian, Ms Tieke Atikah looking at our Indonesian collections and
services, including web resources. On 6 December he also attended the
launch of the Treasures from the World's Great Libraries
exhibition. The National Library of Indonesia has been generous in
allowing several of its exquisite manuscripts from different parts of
the archipelago to be included in the display. They include a
beautifully illuminated Qur'an from Aceh in Sumatra and a most unusual
reel manuscript from the island of Sulawesi in eastern Indonesia. Left: Mr Dady Rachmananta, Head of the National Library of Indonesia with Tieke Atikah, Senior Librarian, Indonesian, National Library of Australia |
