Thirty Years with the Japanese Collection

Jan Fullerton with Moko Eade

Moko Eade retired in November 2001 after more than 30 years service at the National Library of Australia. Most of her career was spent working with the Japanese Unit in Asian Collections. She started in 1971 as a temporary in the Section, which was then known as Orientalia. For the past decade she has had special responsibility for acquisitions and the book vote in Asian Collections.

She is multi-skilled and has carried out a wide range of acquisition, cataloguing, reader service and other duties relating to the Japanese collection. She is well known and respected by scholars and readers who have often requested her assistance and greatly appreciated her profound knowledge of the collection. She has been thanked in a number of books on Japanese topics.

Moko's wide interests outside work include music, gardening and furniture restoration. She is an accomplished player of the koto (Japanese zither) and has performed in a number of concerts including some at the Library.

Moko has been the longest continuously serving member of staff in Asian Collections, and will be greatly missed by researchers and staff. However, since retiring she has returned as a reader and is enjoying this new role. Moko Eade (right) with Jan Fullerton, Director-General of the National Library of Australia
