The Diaries of Donald Friend, Volume 1 edited by Dr Anne Gray When Donald Friend donated his 44 extraordinary diaries to the Library in 1983, he expressed the wish that the Library publish them at some time in the future. Edited by Dr Anne Gray and published under the auspices of the Morris West Trust Fund, The Diaries of Donald Friend, Volume 1 realises this long-standing commitment. This volume, the first of four, covers Friend's early life as a student, his time spent in Nigeria and his experiences in the army during World War II, and also reveals him to be a wonderfully gifted writer.
