The National Library of Australia congratulates Graeme Powell, Manuscript Librarian, who has been recognised for his distinguished career by being awarded the Public Service Medal. The award was presented by the Governor-General at Government House and acknowledged Graeme’s ‘outstanding public service, particularly through the Australian Joint Copying Project and in the management of the National Library’s manuscript collections’. Graeme Powell joined the staff of the National Library in 1967. He was in charge of the Manuscript and Oral History Collections from 1969 to 1975. While still in his twenties, he became Principal Librarian, Australian Reference. He spent nearly nine years in London as the Australian Joint Copying Project Officer and in 1987 returned to the Library. He is currently the Library’s Manuscript Librarian. |
