Asian Collections Refurbishment
The Asian Collections Reading Room reopened on 23 May after a major refurbishment. The room, which had remained substantially unchanged since the building first opened in 1968, has been modernised and upgraded to take advantage of new technologies and to provide a more attractive and welcoming environment for readers. New features include a long-term reader’s room, a consultation room and a special room for access to online catalogues and other electronic resources.

As part of these renovations the reference, newspaper and serial facilities were also upgraded. These include a comfortable area for browsing magazines and newspapers and online access to Asian newspapers. In addition the staff area has been refurbished. There are new workstations and an improved and enlarged workspace.
