KineticaWeb: New Ways of Searching
KineticaWeb has a new look and feel.
Users can now select from three search screens to suit their specific requirements and level of expertise. Simple Search requires the input of a single phrase, without the need to know which index to use. The selection of indexes has been simplified in Advanced Search to enable users to combine search terms without having to cope with a huge array of index options. Expert Search provides more complex searching capability for experienced users with Common Command Language.
Queries can be saved and edited or re-executed at a later date, and saved records can be loaded to a file on a user’s PC. Records can be loaded as html or MARC files.
The new interface has enabled Kinetica to introduce long-awaited improvements such as display of plain English error messages, and better accessibility provisions for visually disabled users (screen design, tabbing, minimal use of graphics, use of Enter instead of mouse clicks). The screens are more user-friendly, and should prove much less of a challenge for users.
From KineticaWeb, users can access the National Bibliographic Database or National Chinese, Japanese and Korean database, hosted at the National Library, as well as a number of remote databases. These include:
