Library’s Disability Action Plan Updated

The National Library has updated its Disability Action Plan, in line with the guidelines provided by the Commonwealth Disability Strategy. The new Plan, which looks at the role of the Library as an employer, purchaser of services, and provider of services, can be found at www.nla.gov.au/dap/index.html

The Plan includes a commitment by the Library to upgrade the adaptive technologies provided for library users. This upgrading is already underway, with some large screen PCs in the Main Reading Room having been installed. Other key initiatives planned for the coming year include:

  • Produce large print versions of key user documents
  • Further improve the Library’s web site to enhance accessibility
  • Increase consultation with library users and disability organisations about accessibility issues
  • Ensure all staff are aware of their rights and responsibilities
  • Reconvene the Forum on Library Services for People with Disabilities to check progress over the past year and determine future directions.
