National Resource Sharing Forum and Field Day:
What’s Coming?

Keep 11–12 November free so you can contribute to discussion on new models for sharing resources in Australia and ideas for improving library service and processes.

Library decision-makers and interlibrary loan and document delivery practitioners will convene at the National Library of Australia over these two days to commence national discussion on resource sharing future directions and needs. Ideas from Australia and overseas will be canvassed and a full range of automation options will be presented.

The Forum will discuss the policy implications of the National Resource Sharing Working Group’s Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Benchmarking Study, and address the recommendations of the Peak Bodies Forum to ‘define a service model to ensure that individuals can access information easily regardless of their location’.

The Forum program includes the following key papers:

  • The future of document delivery presented by
Mary E. Jackson of the United States of America Research Libraries Group.
  • The results of ILL/DD Benchmarking Study presented by Tom Ruthven, National Library of Australia.
  • New models for sharing resources presented by the National Resource Sharing Working Group.
  • International models from New Zealand and Canada, with speakers from the National Libraries of New Zealand and Canada.
  • A panel discussion where speakers will respond to the findings of the ILL/DD Benchmarking Study and its implications for libraries in Australia. Perspectives will be given for: Universities; Special libraries; Public libraries; Regional libraries; and Consortia.
  • The Field Day provides an opportunity to view products from major ILL/DD automation vendors and to communicate your system requirements.
