This beautiful illustrated, full-colour publication tells the story of the National Library of Australia's centenary gift to the nation, the exhibition Treasures from the World's Great Libraries. The exhibition catalogue presents an extraordinary sample of the cultural treasures to be found in libraries and archives including The British Library, the Bibliothèque nationale de France, The New York Public Library and the Library of Congress, the National Library of China, the Jewish National and University Library, Israel, and the National Library of Australia. Featured items include a copy of the Gutenberg Bible, printed c.1455, Cook's Endeavour Journal, the Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead, a Dead Sea Scroll and handwritten manuscript by Jane Austen, Albert Einstein, Jules Verne, Charles Dickens and others.
