Dutch Visitors Discuss Southeast Asian Collecting

The Royal Institute of Linguistics and Anthropology (KITLV) is keen to develop closer cooperation with the National Library of Australia. Like the National Library, the KITLV in the Netherlands has a major acquisition program in Indonesia, and has maintained a presence in Jakarta since the 1960s. The two offices have cooperated for many years.

On 26 November 2002 Professor Gert Oostindie, Director, KITLV and Dr Roger Tol, Chief Librarian, KITLV visited Canberra to discuss cooperation. The KITLV is about to upgrade its office in Jakarta, with
Dr Tol as its new director from early 2003. Professor Oostindie and Dr Tol have been visiting institutions across Southeast Asia and Australia to discuss their plans and also spoke with Oliver Mann, the National Library’s Regional Officer in Jakarta. Oliver was also interviewed by telephone from the KITLV in Leiden as part of a world market study for the future development of KITLV.
