The Kinetica Advisory Committee provides advice on strategic and policy issues affecting the delivery of the Kinetica service, the broad direction of service development and changes occurring in the library community which are likely to affect services.
The Committee is made up of members from key stakeholder groups including the public special and public library sectors. Two new members have recently been appointed to the CommitteeJudy Engall and Chris Taylor. Judy and Chris replace Jan Maslen and Trevor Wakely. Jan and Trevor have been members of the Committee for the last two years and have made outstanding contributions as Committee members with Jan being the Acting Chair of the Committee for the last nine months.
Judy Engall is currently the Secretary and Treasurer of the New South Wales Kinetica User Group and has been involved in this role since 1994. Judy has worked in special libraries for the past 14 years and spent another 11 years in academic and public libraries previously. For a number of years she devoted evenings to teaching library technicians at TAFE. Since 1990 Judy has been employed at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) Library as the Collection Development Librarian and prior to this she worked at the Worksafe Australia Library. As a customer of Kinetica, ANSTO contributes cataloguing data via its participation in the CSIRO Library Network and has demonstrated a long-term commitment to the development of the National Bibliographic Database. Representing a medium-sized special library, ANSTO utilises and contributes to Kinetica in an environment of multiple responsibilities.
Judy is a strong advocate of special libraries and believes that the voices of numerous small libraries should continue to provide significant input in the decision making process for Kinetica service development and delivery. An active member of ALIA, Judy has served as Treasurer of the NSW Branch Council, President of the NSW Cataloguers Section and Secretary of the TAFE National Section.
Chris Taylor has been at the University of Queensland for 13 years. His current position is Executive Manager, Information Access and Delivery Service and prior to that, manager of the Cataloguing Section. IAD, as it is locally known, delivers a unique combination of services, including traditional technical services, metadata, document delivery, circulation, library system management, as well as copyright management for the University. He has been involved from the beginning of subject gateways in Australia, particularly with AVEL, the Australasian Engineering and IT gateway. From 1999 to 2001, he was a member of the Australian Committee on Cataloguing. Prior to joining the University of Queensland, he occupied a variety of positions in colleges, technical services and systems within New South Wales TAFE and was a member of the CLANN Technical Committee.
The University of Queensland continues to be a strong advocate of the National Bibliographic Database as a significant research tool for both national and international researchers. It is also committed to national resource sharing via Kinetica Document Delivery and the implementation of the ISO ILL protocols.
Chris is highly respected by his library colleagues
and continues to provide innovative leadership at the University of Queensland
in areas of national significance for information access and delivery. Chris is
particularly keen to provide a voice for libraries which contribute data via
the Batch*Link
service.
