Graduate Program Adoped as Part of Workforce Planning Strategy
Nick Henderson and Bronwyin Ryan

A decision by the National Library of Australia in 2002 to recruit graduates to the organisation as part of its Workforce Planning Strategy came to fruition recently with the commencement of two graduates in February 2003.

Bronwyn Ryan and Nick Henderson were selected from approximately 350 applicants and commenced as graduates in the Library on 3 February 2003.

Bronwyn Ryan holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Charles Sturt University with majors in English and History. Bronwyn was employed as an Archives Assistant with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Sydney prior to joining the Library.

Nick Henderson holds a Bachelor of Arts (he is currently completing Honours) from the Australian National University with majors in Art History, Curatorship and Geography). Part of Nick’s study also involved an Internship at the National Gallery of Australia prior to joining the Library.

As part of their graduate year Bronwyn and Nick will undertake a series of job rotations through various aspects of the Library including Information Services, Technical Services, Manuscripts, Preservation and Music and Dance and gain exposure to a range of training and development opportunities. Following the successful completion of the program suitable ongoing positions will be identified that balance the personal skills of the graduates and the needs of the Library.

The successful involvement in the 2002 Graduate Program has meant that the Library will be participating in the 2003 Program.
