Discussing Kinetica’s Future: Annual Users’ Meeting 2003
This year’s Kinetica Annual Users’ Meeting (‘AUM’) will be held on 21–22 August 2003 at the Stamford Grand hotel, in Adelaide. This event provides a forum for the Library to constructively discuss Kinetica issues with its customers. The Stamford boutique hotel (overlooking Glenelg Beach, with cafes, restaurants and specialty shops close by) provides a wonderful environment for engaging with colleagues. A draft program has been prepared and can be accessed online, with registration details, at <www.nla.gov.au/kinetica/aum/aum03.html> This year’s chair will be Bronwyn Halliday, Director of the State Library of South Australia. Bronwyn has been the Director since February 2000 and has a small consulting practice specialising in strategy change and change management. She was formerly employed by Ernst and Young’s Adelaide office as the Director of Change Management and as National Director of Continuous Improvement. She is also an occasional lecturer with the International Graduate School of Management at the University of South Australia, where she teaches in the Master of Business Administration program, both in Adelaide and overseas. The AUM program this year will detail the future of Kinetica, with presentations from key National Library staff including Director-General Jan Fullerton, who will provide customers with a comprehensive overview of the Library’s direction. One always important agenda item for the AUMs is the parallel sessions, which provide an opportunity for discussion and participation by users on key issues. The Kinetica Advisory Committee and National Library of Australia keenly review the feedback from these sessions. Topics to be covered this year will include:
This year the Committee and Library are launching a new award to recognise the innovative projects developed by our customers. The successful applicants will receive $3000 credit on their Kinetica account, and free registration to the AUM. We are looking forward to receiving a diverse range of entries from Australian libraries. More information about this award can be found at: <www.nla.gov.au/kinetica/aum/aum03/award.html>. In response to our customers’ requests, we have also organised four workshops at this year’s Meeting, to be held concurrently on the Friday afternoon. The workshops will cover the following key topics.
These workshops will be facilitated by our Kinetica trainers, with assistance from key Kinetica staff. A special feature of this year’s AUM will be the opportunity to participate in an early-evening tour of the newly renovated State Library of South Australia, following on from our ‘happy hour’. This event has been made possible by assistance from our South Australian colleagues, who form the first planning committee to assist with the Annual Users’ Meetings. They have been an invaluable source in making the program diverse and relevant. (We look forward to working with our Canberra colleagues in a similar fashion for next year’s event.) In line with previous years’ structures there will also be a Friday session where Kinetica managers will answer questions-on-notice and questions-without-notice. All questions-on-notice should be forwarded to the Kinetica Help Desk by Monday 18 August. Responses to questions-on-notice will be published on the Kinetica website before the Meeting. We encourage all Kinetica customers to attend the Annual Users’ Meeting and, if you have any particular issues, to raise them by phoning or emailing the Kinetica Help Desk or by contacting your state user-group convenor. All contributions and suggestions welcome. We also encourage all users to send in questions of general interest. Agenda papers for the AUM, including the Kinetica Annual Report for 2002/03, will be available from the Kinetica website before the Meeting. Minutes of last year’s Meeting will be emailed to all registrants, along with a list of participants for the 2003 AUM. We hope you can join us in Adelaide to participate in the 2003 Annual
Users’ Meeting beside the beach. |
