Kinetica Welcomes Linda Luther to the KAC

A colourful portrait of Linda Luther

Linda Luther

The Kinetica Advisory Committee (KAC) provides advice on strategic and policy issues affecting the delivery of the Kinetica service, the broad direction of service development, and changes occurring in the library community which are likely to affect services. As well as three people elected by and from the entire library membership of the Kinetica service, the committee is made up of members from key stakeholder groups, including the public, university, special and public library sectors.

Linda Luther, recently appointed University Librarian at the University of Tasmania, joins the Kinetica Advisory Committee as a representative of the Council of Australian University Libraries (CAUL). Prior to this she was Associate Librarian, Corporate Services, at the University of South Australia, where she had worked for 17 years. Linda has had a close association with the former Australian Bibliographic Network (ABN) and continues to support the spirit of collaborative resource sharing that underpins the current Kinetica service. She was elected chair of the ABN Annual Users’ Meetings in 1989 and 1990, and was elected as member of the ABN Network Committee from 1991 to 1996. In 1999 she chaired the Kinetica Annual Users’ Meeting in Sydney.

The University of South Australia Library has been a strong contributor to the National Bibliographic Database, from being involved as a member of the original group of pilot libraries for ABN, through to its current contribution to Kinetica. As well as contributing data, the Library provides training and participates in local user groups. In her varied professional roles, Linda has fervently championed quality contributions to the National Bibliographic Database for over a decade. She believes increasing such contributions is the cornerstone to effective and efficient resource discovery across the Australian library community.

In her role as a KAC member, Linda will work closely with John Arfield, who joined the Committee in 2002, to represent Australian university libraries on the Committee.
