Discover Guides
Discovering what is held in the collections of the National Library is not always easy, even for Library staff. The Library has extensive and often complex holdings in many subject areas, both Australian and international. Many are particularly valuable for their historical coverage.
In an effort to help both Library users and staff know what is available to them, the staff of Information Services have developed a series of Discover Guides which outline key resources in popular and diverse subject areas. The Guides are particularly useful as they have relevance for both our onsite and offsite users. For the benefit of onsite users, the guides refer to printed items in both our reference and main book collections and our various subscription-based electronic indexes and databases. Offsite users (and other libraries) can access a range of websites and databases freely available over the Web, and benefit by learning about printed or electronic titles which may be available to them locally.
Feedback shows that the guides are being regularly used by clients to assist them in their research. Two recent Discover Guides outline our extensive historical collections of documents relating to important international organisations.
