Delivering Copies to the Desktop—Ariel Web Delivery
As one of the biggest document suppliers in the country, the National Library of Australia has recently implemented a speedy document delivery method to improve its service to individuals.
This new delivery method uses the Ariel web delivery software to scan and post a copy to a web document store. Ariel then automatically sends an email to the user with a hyperlink to the copy and a password to view it. Users can view, download or print the copies as they like. There is no more waiting to receive copies by post, which is particularly beneficial for interstate and overseas users.
The Ariel software allows copies to be delivery in PDF or TIFF format and in black and white or colour. The National Library has selected PDF format in black and white as its standard format for Ariel web delivery.
The Document Supply Service and the System Support areas of the National Library worked closely together to establish the new service. A big ‘thank you’ should go to the Library of the Australian Defence Force Academy for sharing their experience and participating in the testing.
Since Ariel web delivery became available, more and more people have chosen it as their preferred delivery method. This fast and easy delivery method is expected to be made available for libraries at the end of the year, which will help those libraries that want to receive electronic copies but do not have the Ariel receiving software.
Please email docss@nla.gov.au if you have any queries about Ariel web delivery. We are happy to share our experience with you.
