The John Curtin Prime Ministerial Library (JCPML) <http://john.curtin.edu.au/> is the first institution in Western Australia to contribute its images to PictureAustralia.
Over 680 photographs from the JCPML Electronic Research Archive <http://dtl.lis.curtin.edu.au/> are now available via PictureAustralia. Photographs collected by the Curtin family form a significant part of the collection and include many images of the family, of John Curtin and of his wife Elsie, as well as images of Curtin in other roles. Themes covered include Curtin’s involvement with the Victorian Socialist Party, the Timber Workers’ Union, the World War I anti-conscription movement and the Australian Labor Party, his work as editor of the Westralian Worker newspaper, his leadership of the ALP and his years as prime minister of Australia.
At the very successful launch of the JCPML’s participation in PictureAustralia held at Curtin University of Technology on 6 November, Kandy-Jane Henderson, JCPML Archivist, said ‘We are very proud to continue our very long and productive association with the National Library by being a part of PictureAustralia. I can only encourage other institutions in WA to participate in PictureAustralia, apart from anything else the NLA support makes it all so easy.’
