Document Supply
—Vicki Jovanovski

This has been an interesting year for us and we thank you for all the requests you have sent and look forward to receiving more next year. Some of the highlights for Document Supply Service in 2003 are as follows:

  • Copies Direct service was launched in late 2002 and has been growing steadily. This service is directed at people who would like to request a copy of material from the National Library’s Collections. The service has been very widely used throughout Australia and overseas.
  • Ariel Web delivery was introduced this year especially to support the Copies Direct service. This service has allowed Document Supply staff to place requested copies of articles on our website. These documents are password protected and are deleted once the requester has viewed them.
  • Document Supply conducts a turnaround time survey every quarter to ensure we meet the ILRS (Interlibrary Resource Sharing) code turnaround time. This year each survey has shown that 99.9 per cent of the material supplied by the Library was delivered within the ILRS code service level chosen by the requesting library.
  • In August, Document Supply Service implemented the ILL (Interlibrary loan) manager software produced by the Research Libraries Group (RLG) to manage interlibrary loans received from our Shares Partners. The National Library is a member of the RLG Shares Interlending service.
  • The 8th Interlending and Document Delivery International Conference was held at the National Library of Australia between 28 and 31 October and was attended by over 271 people from 24 countries. The conference was jointly organised with ALIA, the National Library of Australia and the National Resource Sharing Working Group and Policy Committee. Document Supply was heavily involved in the organisation and running of the conference. The papers and presentations from the conference are available on the website at <www.nla.gov.au/ilds/program.htm>.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
