Mr Tom Elliott, Director of Customer Services & Information at Canberra Connect, will chair the 2004 meeting. Tom has a diverse public service background, having worked in local government, New South Wales State Government agencies, Commonwealth Government agencies and, more recently, for the Australian Capital Territory Government. He is a professionally qualified librarian with an extensive career in this field including seven years in Sutherland Shire Libraries in Sydney, five years in TAFE libraries in north-western New SouthWales, and terms as Chief Librarian for the Department of New South Wales Agriculture and Chief Librarian for the Australian Taxation Office.
I believe that the services offered by Kinetica to the Australian public and, more recently, internationally, bring people more closely together. The discovery and sharing of resources within a supported environment allows us to concentrate our resources on a wider range of tasks than if we were to be working in isolation. We should all be proud of our contributions to this excellent service and continue to offer our support to face future challenges and exploit upcoming opportunities.
—Tom Elliott 2004
Unlike previous years, KAUM 2004 will be held over a single day, concentrating on the redevelopment of Kinetica. For those arriving on Thursday, there will be an opportunity to register in the evening.
Jan Fullerton, Director-General of the National Library, hopes representatives from all Australian libraries to attend the meeting. ‘Kinetica is the cornerstone of resource access and resource sharing in Australia. I encourage all to attend and become informed about the work being undertaken to improve the Kinetica service and to assist in the identification of future directions for development.’
The highlights of the 2004 meeting will include a report on end-user experiences of the Kinetica Public Libraries Portal Trial, outlined by Janet Smith (Goulburn Regional Library Service), presentations by the Kinetica Redevelopment Project teams and the presentation of the Innovation Award for 2004. In addition to the above, various committees and advisory groups will be presenting reports in the afternoon. There will be the opportunity to ask questions with and without notice at the end of the day.
