Kinetica Pricing for 2004–2005
After careful consideration, the National Library of Australia will be increasing charges for some Kinetica services from 1 July 2004.
This issue was discussed with the Kinetica Advisory Committee in March 2004, and the committee endorsed selected price increases, noting that Kinetica has worked very hard to reduce operating expenses as far as possible. The price increases from 1 July 2004 are as follows:
A review of pricing showed that there has not been a price increase for Kinetica services since July 2002. Since this time, operating costs have been contained as much as possible and Kinetica has continued to maintain a quality service at the existing level. However a price increase for searching is now required to meet continuing expenses in delivering Kinetica services. The price increase for search charges is outlined in the following table:

Electronic collection sets
The Electronic Collection Service was developed and trialed in 2003. Prices were reviewed based on information gathered in the trial. It should be noted that this service requires significant resourcing and ongoing development. In response to customer demand, Kinetica is continuing to work on customisation of the data as well as the addition of quality data sets to the service. An institution-specific URL will be implemented as a part of the service shortly. The revised price for electronic collections is still significantly less than the cost of equivalent products from commercial suppliers.
The new fee schedule for e-collection sets is as follows:

Location Data
Kinetica is also implementing a new product to support interlibrary loan activities for Australian libraries. The Kinetica Document Delivery (KDD) system includes a detailed directory of Australian interlibrary loan participants. Until recently this has been sufficient to support interlibrary loans for Australian libraries. During the last 12 months however, a number of libraries have implemented interlibrary loan systems that cannot access the directory data shared in KDD. Kinetica is now making this data available to those libraries that may require it.
Pricing for location data that is available is now as follows:
|
Location
Data Charging Schedule
|
|
| Single site | $275 (inc. GST) (base file plus update) |
| Consortia | $495 (inc. GST) (where data is loaded on a single shared server |
| Commercial | $935 (inc. GST) (commercial supplier may reformat and on-sell to its customers) |
Revised charges for Kinetica searching and electronic collection sets will come into effect from 1 July 2004. For those libraries with calendar year site licences, the price increase will be applied from the next site licence renewal.
