| MARC Records for Your Library’s
Electronic Collections
For many years Australian libraries have obtained records from Kinetica to enable their users to access material. For the past two years Kinetica has supplied records for electronic journal sets so that libraries can offer access to these resources through their catalogues. The National Library is now finalising an agreement with Serials Solutions, an American-based company recently acquired by Proquest Information and Learning, on behalf of Australian national, state, territory and public libraries to purchase MARC records for overseas electronic collections. The Library will continue to supply MARC records for Australian electronic collections such as APAFT, AGIS, AusStats etc. on a subscription basis as base sets and/or quarterly update files.
Serials provides MARC records for a long list of electronic collections including many Gale, Ebsco and Proquest products, and already has an agreement with CAUL, the Council of Australian University Librarians. A base set of MARC records and monthly updates are provided directly to each participating library according to the requirements listed in the library’s profile. The profile offers libraries the opportunity to select preferences for the delivery of records, record types and actions for each of the MARC tags, which affects the way records are displayed. Interested libraries are encouraged to complete a Request for Quotation form which is accessible from the Serials Solutions website at: <http://www.serialssolutions.com>. In addition, Serials will provide the National Library with the base set of records and updates, complete with the holdings of the participating libraries, for loading to the National Bibliographic Database, eliminating the need for libraries to do so. Serials can also provide aggregator neutral records minimising duplication of titles in your library’s catalogue and institution specific URLs. Pricing is available from the Serials Solutions’ website, but libraries taking part in this consortial deal will receive a 15 per cent discount. Make your catalogue a one-stop-shop and eliminate the confusion for your
users by including records for your electronic collections. For more information
