Last year large numbers of National Library staff took part in the ‘Walk for a Cure’ to raise money for juvenile diabetes. This year some staff took a more novel approach. Three members of the Library’s Corporate Management Group volunteered to undertake challenges above and beyond their usual work activities, with staff pledging donations to the cause to ensure these challenges were met.

Mark Corbould, Assistant Director General, Information Technology, spent three 20-minute periods riding an exercise bike in the Library’s foyer. Staff and members of the public visiting the Library on the day were so impressed with Mark’s commitment that he raised a significant amount through donations.

Assistant Director-General, Executive and Coordination Support, Jasmine Cameron, worked for a morning as a waitress in Bookplate, the Library’s restaurant. Not surprisingly, many staff groups took their morning break in style that day, with coffee and cake in the restaurant, and Jasmine coped admirably with some very difficult customers!

Roxanne Missingham, Assistant Director-General, Resource Sharing, very bravely allowed one of her colleagues to dye her hair in the Library foyer. Those who’ve seen Roxanne in recent weeks on her various interstate visits will have noticed she was sporting a very elegant bright green and purple (Kinetica’s colours) coiffure. Jasper the Jelly Baby, from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, came along to the Library to offer support.

As in previous years, a number of staff also participated in the public ‘Walk for a Cure’, and in total the Library’s efforts this year earned $3100 for juvenile diabetes research.
