PictureAustralia recently released two new picture trails highlighting different areas of Australia’s transport history.

By Road
Covering different eras, uses and models, the By Road trail highlights images relating to Australia’s motoring history. From the cycle car of 1904 to the sports car of the 1980s, from motor rallies in 1911 to V8 supercar series in 2000, motor transport has become a major form of recreation and travel for many Australians.

Browse through PictureAustralia’s By Road trail at <http://www.pictureaustralia.org/trails_travel.html> for a glimpse of one of Australia's most popular modes of transport.

By Rail
The By Rail trail provides a selection of images from the collections of PictureAustralia participants relating to the history of Australian railways.

There are examples of the role the railway played for each of the colonies before Federation, such as the first-class wheel railways passenger carriage from the 1860s, a sketch of the opening of Horsham railway in 1879, images of the interior of a railway carriage in 1910 and the arrival of the first electric train at Campbelltown Railway Station, Sydney in 1968.

Browse through the By Rail trail at <http://www.pictureaustralia.org/trails_travel.html> and enjoy!

From the collections of the Wollongong City Library and the Illawarra Historical Society.
