Behind the Scenes—Document Delivery Service for MusicAustralia
MusicAustralia provides a single access point for people to find and access information on Australian music, musicians, organisations and services. It was developed by the National Library of Australia and the National Film and Sound Archive with several other Australian libraries participating. One of the best features of MusicAustralia is that it enables people to get the material after finding it. There are three ‘get’ options available: access online, borrow on an interlibrary loan or buy a copy from a library. Document Supply Service of the National Library works behind the scene to provide interlibrary loan to other libraries, while through the Copies Direct service we provide copies of material directly to the requester. Every item record in MusicAustralia has a ‘From Collection’ field, which clearly indicates which library holds the material. If the material is held by the National Library, it could be requested through interlibrary loans and document delivery. Requests can be sent to the Document Supply Service via KDD, email, fax or mail as a normal interlibrary loan request. Supply of this material is dependent on the Library’s lending policy and the Copyright Act. The Library’s lending policy for musical material is similar to the policy for its general collection material. MusicAustralia also enables end users to order copies online without taking the interlibrary loan route if the item is held by the National Library. Users can select ‘Want to buy?’ in which case the Copies Direct service option becomes available. |
