Welcome to Lee Christofis, the New Curator of Dance
The Library is delighted to welcome Lee Christofis as its new Curator of Dance, following the appointment of Michelle Potter to head the Dance Division at the New York Public Library.
Lee brings to the Library not only outstanding knowledge of dance in Australia but also a breadth of experience in the arts and education, from early childhood education through to multicultural arts. Lee is perhaps best known to the public as a writer on dance for The Australian, Dance Australia, Brolga and Dance Forum, and as a broadcaster for ABC Radio National and Classic FM arts and music programs.
A former dancer with the Queensland Ballet and national vice president of the Australian Dance Council (AusDance), Lee comes to the Library from the University of Melbourne where he has been teaching twentieth century dance history, arts criticism and arts management. With the Australia Council, he has been conducting the Multicultural Arts Marketing Ambassadors Strategy, which is a cultural diversity audience development program he designed in 1999.
Lee is keen to use his diverse experience to further develop the Library’s dance collections and services. He brings specialist knowledge to ‘The Ballets Russes in Australia’—a collaborative research project with The Australian Ballet and the University of Adelaide—as well as the Australia Dancing web service. Lee welcomes your ideas about developing the Library’s dance collection. His email address is lchristo@nla.gov.au
