Deborah Thomas—the Library’s New Council Member

On the 10 th August 2006, the Governor-General appointed Ms Deborah Thomas as a Member of the Council of the National Library of Australia for a term of three years.

Many Australians will be familiar with Ms Thomas in her role as Editorial–Director of The Australian Women’s Weekly, which has a circulation of 620,000 and more than 2.7 million readers each month. Ms Thomas is responsible for all aspects of The Australian Women’s Weekly magazine as well as being editorial Director of The Australian Women’s Weekly Books Division.

Ms Thomas is currently a board member of the National Breast Cancer Centre and the Walkley Foundation. She is also a patron of the Taronga Zoo Foundation. She was previously a member of the Queensland Government Food, Fibre and Science Innovation Council and was a Department of Foreign Affairs AusAID Ambassador.

She brings to the Council a wealth of experience in publishing, marketing, communications and advertising.
