New Copyright Officer

Laura Simes

Laura Simes has recently commenced work as Copyright Advisor based at the National Library.

The role incorporates appointment as Executive Officer for the Australian Digital Alliance (ADA) (http://digital.nla.gov.au/) and as Copyright Advisor (Law & Policy) for the Australian Libraries’ Copyright Committee (ALCC) (http://digital.nla.gov.au/alcc/).

Laura relocated to the ACT from Western Australia in mid-January this year, and reports she is gradually managing to find her way through all the circular roads and roundabouts in Canberra. She was previously employed as an articled clerk at Perth law firm Butcher Paull & Calder and is looking forward to the diversity of work in her new position, which includes legal research, lobbying Government and organising seminars in relation to Copyright Law.

Laura completed her Bachelor of Laws and Bachelors of Arts (majoring in English) in mid-2005 at the University of Western Australia. She has also worked at the Western Australian Department of the Attorney General as a legal research officer and has previous experience lobbying Government through voluntary work with the Amnesty Legal Group (WA).

Laura’s predecessor, Sarah Waladan, moved to the Australian Film Commission as a Legal Officer.
