Libraries Australia Welcomes Anne Horn to the Advisory Committee
Anne Horn, Linda Luther, Chris Taylor
The Libraries Australia Advisory Committee (LAAC) provides advice on strategy and policy issues affecting the delivery of the Libraries Australia service, the broad direction of service development, and changes occurring in the library community which are likely to affect services. The committee is made up of members from key stakeholder groups, including the public, university, state and territory, and special library sectors.
Anne Horn has joined the ten other members of the LAAC as a representative of the Council of Australian University Libraries. Anne was recently appointed as University Librarian at Deakin University, and was previously the Executive Manager of the Social Sciences and Humanities Library Service at the University of Queensland.
Anne, together with colleagues Joan Moncrieff and Janine Epps, recently published a paper on ‘Financial Accounting and Library Collections: The Bottom Line’ (viewable at http://www.deakin.edu.au/library/staff/publications/ahorn/Horn_Click061.pdf) which outlines the issues related to defining the dollar value of library collections and functions. Taking on additional responsibilities for digital collections without additional funding requires new strategic thinking, which will influence Libraries Australia’s future directions.
In her role as a LAAC member, Anne will work closely with Linda Luther, who joined the committee in 2003, to represent Australian university libraries. The National Library welcomes Anne to the committee.
Changes to the Libraries Australia Advisory Committee
At the committee’s April 2007 meeting Linda Luther was appointed its new Chair, to replace John Arfield of the University of Western Australia who resigned in November. The LAAC extends its thanks to John for his dedication and hard work from 2002 to 2006.
Linda is the University Librarian at the University of Tasmania. She will be supported in her new role by Chris Taylor of the University of Queensland, who has taken on the role of deputy Chair.
The members of the committee are listed at http://www.nla.gov.au/librariesaustralia/laacmembers.html.
