In December 2007 Ralph Sanderson, Manager of the National Library’s Regional Office in Jakarta, will complete his term and return to Canberra with his family after three years in Indonesia.

Ralph will be replaced in Jakarta by Tieke Atikah, Senior Librarian of the Library’s Indonesian Unit. Tieke will travel to Jakarta accompanied by her husband and son, and will bring her strong knowledge of the Indonesian collections to the position.

The Regional Office is responsible for acquiring new Indonesian publications for the National Library’s collection and those of nine other partners in Australia and overseas.

We are extremely grateful to Ralph for managing the office very well for the past three years. He played a major role in providing assistance to the Aceh Provincial Library following the tsunami in December 2004, a role he reports on elsewhere in this issue. Ralph also implemented a number of major procedural improvements in the administration of the office and the delivery and cataloguing of consignments. During his time, Jakarta staff commenced creating full-level catalogue records and contributing them online to the Library’s Voyager catalogue. This was the achievement of a long-term aim and benefits both the Library and the nine library participants of the Indonesian Acquisitions Program.

Ralph and the Jakarta office staff are pictured with Tieke during her visit in March 2007.
