A Breakthrough in Timeliness

Libraries Australia and the Online Computer Library Centre (OCLC) have introduced an exciting new method of rapid resource sharing. This new method ensures WorldCat, the global catalogue of library collections, receives records from Libraries Australia in real time.

This new approach to data synchronisation, known as SRU Record Update, will result in many benefits for Australian libraries, including rapid record sharing. ‘SRU’ stands for ‘Search/Retrieve via URL’ More information about SRU Record Update can be found at www.loc.gov/standards/sru/record-update/

Libraries Australia is encouraging libraries to include SRU Record Update as a requirement when they are purchasing new, or enhancing, library management systems.

Libraries Australia would like to hear from libraries interested in testing SRU Record Update to receive records from their management systems Australia-wide. This would increase the responsiveness and usefulness of record-sharing.
