A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR This year has been an exciting year for Friends, with activities ranging from Meet the Author and curator presentations to major events such as the Kenneth Myer Lecture, the Celebration of Mem Fox, and the outback tour in the footsteps of Burke and Wills. May I thank the outgoing Friends Committee and all Friends for your support, including your continuing generous donations to the National Library’s Treasures Gallery Fund. I also wish the new Chair and committee every success for 2003; next year’s program is well advanced and also packed with interesting and exciting activities. Finally, on behalf of all members of the outgoing committee, I extend to all Friends our very best wishes for a happy, and safe, festive season. Ian
Dudgeon §§§ As another year comes to a close, I wish to remind all members that our Annual General Meeting and Christmas Party will be held at the National Library on Tuesday 10 December. The AGM will commence in the Theatre at 5.30 pm. I urge members to attend this important meeting, which will include the election of next year’s Friends Committee, and the donation of monies collected during 2002 for the Treasures Gallery Fund. The Christmas Party will immediately follow the AGM and provide an opportunity for all Friends to join with one another and share in the festivities. Please register your attendance by close of business on Friday 6 December. §§§ Next year’s Friends Committee will include a number of new faces. Our Chair, Ian Dudgeon, and our Treasurer, Phil Hawke, have served maximum terms on the committee, as have our mail-out captain Peter Kloppenberg, and long-term member Warwick Bradney. Their expertise, enthusiasm and wisdom will be sorely missed, and on behalf of the membership I would like to express my thanks to these admirable people for all their efforts over the last three years. The new Committee will meet on 17 December to elect office bearers, and to start implementing our exciting 2003 program of events. The forward program is in place until June 2003, and includes such topics as the Library’s dance collection, Matthew Flinders, Pugin, great Australian women, and Frederick Septimus Kelly. §§§ So until January, I wish everyone happy holidays, and a peaceful and prosperous new year.
