Manuscript Collection, MS 2683/11/11

Jessie Street founded the United Associations of Women in 1929 and held the office of president from its inception until 1942. As a feminist campaigner, political activist, and a persistent representative on behalf of the underprivileged in Australia and abroad, Jessie Street made a valuable and enduring contribution to the development of human rights in the 20th century. Her papers in the National Library’s Manuscript Collection (MS 2683) provide evidence of an extraordinary life (see article p.3).
