Betty Churcher inspects the silver kettle and spirit lamp which Queen Charlotte presented to Sir Joseph Banks during his convalescence from an illness in 1813. This photograph was taken during production of Film Australia’s Hidden Treasures, series 2, television program which highlights a number of the National Library of Australia’s items in 10 weekly episodes of 10 minutes each. Other Library ‘treasures’ featured include the recently discovered watercolours of First Fleet artist George Raper, various artistic renditions of the death of Captain Cook, and items from the Maps Collection. The series, following an earlier one in which Ms Churcher presented treasured items from the National Gallery of Australia, commences on ABC 1 on Tuesday 3 June, immediately before the 7.00 pm News.
