This Christmas advertisement appeared as a supplement to The Illustrated Sydney News in December 1875. Santa Claus is surrounded by various listings from merchants offering everything you could possibly want or need for the perfect Christmas celebration. The wares on offer include fine teas, exotic spices, freshly roasted coffee, imported cigars, a gold watch, a new haircut, a pair of French kid gloves (packed in an elegant scented sachet), a tankard of prize ale, Mrs Way’s undergarments, assorted confectionary and even sugar-coated vegetable pills!
