The National Library has a large collection of Australian and overseas newspapers in print, microform and online formats.
The format of the newspaper depends on the date you are looking for.
Our early historic newspapers between the 16th and 19th centuries and mainly from the US and the UK are available online via eresources. Other newspapers from this time period may be available in other formats, please see our search tip on this page.
Many historic Australian newspapers between 1803 and 1955 are available online through the Trove database. More out of copyright newspapers are being digitised all the time.
In copyright newspapers between 1955 and 1990 are available in print and microfilm. Unfortunately, there are very few indexes for this period so you will need a date and place in mind before you start your search. See our newspaper indexes research guide for more information.
Current newspapers post 1990 are much more likely to be online.
You can explore our range of online newspapers in eresources.
