Institution
Background / History
Founded in 1973 and located on the outskirts of Bangalore, IIMB is one of four national institutes of management. These offer three types of courses: a post-graduate diploma in management which is a two year full-time management course; a management development program for business, industry and government and a doctoral program. In addition, faculties undertake research and consultancy services as well as maintaining a publishing program.
Funding
The institute is funded by the Government of India in cooperation with the Government of Karnataka under the aegis of the Ministry of Education. Projects are funded by outside bodies such as the World Health Organisation (WHO), Ford Foundation and World Bank.
Library
Collection
The collection consists of 85,000 books, 13,000 bound journal volumes, microfilms, microfiche, films, video cassettes, audio cassettes, reprints and maps. The Library subscribes to 600 periodicals; receives over 400 newsletters and 500 annual reports from both the private and public sector.
In addition, the library maintains press clipping files on management and related subjects and subscribes to Abstracted Business Information (ABI Inform) fulltext (five hundred journal titles). Ninety five percent of the collection is in English. The library adds 4,000 to 5,000 volumes to the collection each year. Titles are recommended by Faculty members.
The classification system used is London Classification for Business Studies (ASLIB) and subject headings are ABI Inform headings.
Services
Service offered include: reference, indexing, and bibliographical services in managerial literature, interlibrary loans, reprint and reprographic services. There are both video and audio facilities and a CD-ROM room.
Automation
The OPAC uses LibSys. All faculties are connected to the library catalogue via a Local Area Network (LAN) and the institute is networked to other national and international institutes and organisations. Automation of circulation will be undertaken after the completion of the current bar-coding program.
Opening Hours and Access
The Library is open every day of the year except three national holidays; Republic Day, Independence day, and the Gandhi Jayanti. The circulation section is open 24 hours a day during semester and from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm during the vacations.
Anyone is welcome to use the Library for reference but only members may borrow. Membership is available to individuals for Rs. 1,000 plus an annual service charge of Rs. 500 . Interested scholars should apply to the Librarian.
Publications
The institute publishes the IIM-B Management Review as well as a monthly newsletter. In addition, the institute is also responsible for institute working papers and seminars proceedings.
The Library is responsible for publishing, A Bibliography of Bibliographies available at IIMB Library and Journals subscribed to by IIMB Library.

Institution
Background / History
The National Council for Applied Economic Research was established in 1958 as a non-government economic research institute. The NCAER is a non-profit organisation with varied membership which includes state governments, government departments authorities and private corporations. It is primarily a research organisation undertaking applied economic research for its members and international agencies.
Funding
The NCAER receives a grant from the Indian Ministry of Finance each year but is largely self-funded. Central and State Governments as well as the International Government Organisation (IGO) help to keep the Council running though their sponsored research projects.
Library
The Library was established along with the Council in 1958.
Collection
Holdings include monographs, reports, maps, serials, press clippings, conference proceedings, company annual reports, statistical publications, United Nations (UN) documents and microfiche. The library also acts as a depository for the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) publications. Subject coverage includes: economics, agriculture, energy, industry, rural development, demography, macro-modelling, health economics, gender studies and Census of India publications 1872 to 1991. There are approximately 64,100 monographs (including over 26,000 reports) and 450 journal titles in English.
Staff
The library employs seven staff including two librarians.
Automation
NCAER produces an in-house on-line Indian Economic Literature bibliographic database with a print equivalent titled Artha Suchi. The database was established in 1983 and contains over 30,000 records and is continually updated.
Opening Hours and Access
The library is open 9:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday to Friday. Access is restricted to NCAER staff and some external users including overseas researchers. The library is a reference service only with no borrowing.

Institution
Background / History
The Reserve Bank is Indias central bank, with twenty-seven departments and twenty-nine regional centres. There are offices in all state capitals.
Funding
Funding is from the Government of India.
Library
Collection
The Library has a collection of books, journals and statistics dealing with banking, economics and finance. In addition, the RBI library contains a comprehensive collection of international and Indian financial information as well as reports and policy documentation. It exchanges information with many of the worlds central banks.
Funding
The RBI Library is well resourced with an annual acquisitions budget of around Rs 5 million on journals and Rs 1.5 to 2 million on books and databases on CD-ROM.
Services
Services offered include current awareness bulletins and an inter-library loan service.
Automation
The Library has been fully automated since 1993 using LibSys system. While no retrospective conversion has been undertaken it is not considered vital as weeding of the collection removes out-of-date items quickly.
The Library has a number of databases on CD-ROM available together with a Powerpoint presentation of Library services. A World Wide Web (WWW) site for the library, which presents a wide range of information, has been developed by a private firm. (See contact information above for WWW address.)

Publications
The RBI publish regular statistics for India, not only financial statistics but also general economic data such as house prices and other economic indicators. It also publishes special reports. All publications are freely available in electronic form on the RBIs WWW site.
The RBI Library publishes lists of new publications and journal articles (fortnightly) and abstracts of journals (quarterly).
